Card readers

You can ask for an ID-card reader from your local bank office or a computer store.

An ID-card reader is a special device that is connected to a computer and it is used for reading the data stored on your ID-card. This device is a prerequisite for becoming an e-citizen.

Card readers can be grouped in the following major categories:

  • USB card readers - connected to the USB port of your computer;
  • PCMCIA card readers - inserted into the PCMCIA slot of notebook computers;
  • internal card readers - built-in devices in some computers.

An ordinary USB card reader is quite sufficient for most users. Advantages of this type include great reliability and good price. Users of notebook computers may however consider it annoying to carry around yet another device.
