How to obtain an ID-card

 

You can apply for an ID-card in service point of Police and Border Guard Board, foreign missions of the Republic of Estonia, by mail or by e-mail. You can find more information here.

You can only apply for an ID-card in expedited order in the service point of Police and Border Guard Board. In the event that you are applying for an identity document for the first time, applying for an ID-card in expedited order is not possible.

The ID-card will be issued to you in person within 30 days (as of acceptance of the application and commencement of proceedings) in the service office or a foreign mission of the Republic of Estonia noted in the application form. Delivery of an ID-card to a foreign mission may take more than 30 days.

An ID-card applied for in expedited order will be issued within five working days (as of the working day following the submission of the application) only in the service offices located in Tallinn.

You can apply for digi-ID in the service point of Police and Border Guard Board and it will be issued to you on the spot in the service office while you wait. Digi-ID is a digital identity card that can be used for personal identification and digital signing in the electronic environment.
