ID-card software minidraiver in Windows Update

Where your computer runs Windows 7 or 8 and you connect a card reader and an ID card to the computer for the first time, ID-software mini-driver will be installed automatically.

This mini-driver allows to use ID card to log into e-service, but not to sign documents. In order to sign documents in the e-service and use DigiDoc3 client and encryption you should install the complete package of ID software from the page installer.id.ee.

In order to receive the ID software mini-driver you must have automatic driver search enabled in Windows Update when you connect an ID card reader to the computer for the first time.

Upon successful installation the icon of Estonian ID software will be added to the Devices and Printers folder:

You must manually install the remaining components necessary for digital signatures and encryption/decryption of documents.

One way to do it is to double-click the ID software icon in the Devices and Printers folder. After that the Device Stage page opens:

Double-click on the “ID-kaardi tarkvara paigaldamine” (“Installation of ID card software”) to be transferred to the respective page (https://installer.id.ee).
