What technical data is transmitted while using ID-software?

ID-card software like any other software (Skype, Firefox, Google, Apple, Microsoft) transmits different technical data about the environment the software is being used in. The data transmitted by ID-software components is used to improve usability, software performance and to react more effectively to software errors.

The following is a full list of data transmitting interfaces, data volumes and recipients.

  • ID-software error report - report is created when ID-software crashes but the user decides if its sent or not. The report transmitted to Estonian Information System's Authority contains technical information regarding the error (interrupted processes and modules used), enviromental variables (software version, operating system name and version, processor) and error description entered by the user. Error report statistics is then analysed by the developer and taken into consideration when new developments are planned in cooperation with Estonian Information System's Authority.  The principles of ID-software error report can be found here.
  • Automatic software update - automatic software update periodically checks Estonian Information System's Authority servers for software updates. The following info is transmitted to the server by the application: software version, operating system name and version, computer language settings, card reader and driver information (if connected).

For example: id-updater/3.7.0.940_(Windows_7_Service_Pack_1_(32_bit))_Locale:_Russian_/_1251__(ANSI_-_Cyrillic)_Devices:_OMNIKEY_1021_(USB\\VID_076B&PID_1021&REV_0100)

  • DigiDoc3 client automatic version control and kill switch periodically check Estonian Information System's Authority servers, if the computer has the most recent version of the software with the valid support. The following info is transmitted to the server: DigiDoc3 client software version, computer operating system name and version.

For example: qdigidocclient/3.9.0.1292 (Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 bit))

  • Digital signing with DigiDoc3 client - during digital signing with DigiDoc3 client the information transmitted to SK-s validity confirmation service contains DigiDoc3 software version and computer operating system name and version.

For example: CDigiDoc/3.7.2.1115 APP qdigidocclient/3.7.2.1198 (Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 bit))

  • Server Access Certificate installation with DigiDoc3 client - during the installation SK's server receives information about ID-software version and computer operating system name and version.

For example: qdigidocclient/3.7.2.1198 (Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 (32 bit))

  • Picture download and while checking eesti.ee email settings with ID-card utility / ID-kaardi haldusvahend - Estonian Information System Authority's server receives information about ID-card utility version and computer operating system name and version.

For example: qesteidutil/3.7.0.1079 (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (32 bit))

  • Mobile-ID certificate status query with ID-card utility / ID-kaardi haldusvahend -  SK server receives information about ID-card utility version and computer operating system name and version.

For example: qesteidutil/3.7.0.1079 (Mac OS 10.8.5 (64/x86_64))

  • ID-card certificate renewal via ID-card utility - RIA server receives computers IP-address, ID-card utility version info, op. system and smart card reader which was being used for the operation.

For example: "clientip":"213.32.160.14","useragent":"qesteidutil\/3.12.2.1206 (Windows 8.1 (64 bit))","cmd":"START","event":"SESSION_START","lang":"et","version":"3.12.2.1206","platform":"Windows 8.1 (64 bit)"

"reader": "RemoteTerminal (Broadcom Corp Contacted SmartCard 0)"

  • Information systems that are using DigiDoc libraries for digital signing - during digital signing SK's validity confirmation service receives information about library version and digital signature format and version.

For example: JDigiDoc/3.6.1.1 format: DIGIDOC-XML/1.3

  • During signing with DigiDoc3 client software the Sertifitseerimiskeskus time-stamping service receives information about DigiDoc3 client software version, computer operating system name and version.

For example: libdigidocpp/3.10.0.1281 APP qdigidocclient/3.10.0.1401 (Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 bit))

  • During DigiDoc3 client software start-up and TSL list loading the servicing TSL server (in Estonia sr.riik.ee) will receive information about DigiDoc3 client software version, computer operating system name and version.

For example: libdigidocpp/3.9.0.1237 APP digidoc-tool/3.9.0.1237

  • Information systems that are using DigiDoc libraries for digital signing  - during digital signing Sertifitseerimiskeskus time-stamping service receives information about library version and digital signature format and version.

For example: libdigidocpp/3.9.0.1237 APP digidoc-tool/3.9.0.1237

  • Information systems that are using DigiDoc libraries for digital signing - during TSL list loading the TSL servicing server (in Estonia sr.riik.ee) will receive library version.

For example: libdigidocpp/3.9.0.1237 APP digidoc-tool/3.9.0.1237

  • During Kill-switch information loading in DigiDoc3 client the RIA server will receive information about DigiDoc3 client software version, computer operating system name and version.

For example: libdigidocpp/3.9.0.1237 APP qdigidocclient/3.9.1.1369 (Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 bit))

  • During signature creation with Mobiil-ID in DigiDoc client application the Sertifitseerimiskeskus DigiDocService web service will receive information about DigiDoc3 client software version, computer operating system name and version.

For example: qdigidocclient/3.9.0.1292 (Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 bit))
