More Than 1,500 New Mobile-ID Users Each Month

According to the Certification Center, the user-base of Mobile-ID has grown rapidly in the last quarter, as the service has gained more than 1,500 new users each month. The growth can be attributed to EMT’s campaign, which provides free subscription to the service – the subscription fee of €10, which includes the state fee, is paid by EMT on behalf of the customer.

Lauri Läheb, Head of Product Management Division at EMT, says that there are already over 30,000 Mobile-ID users in Estonia, and 80 percent of them are customers of EMT.

„Mobile-ID is secure and convenient, because it does not require neither an ID-card reader, nor a software for it. Using an app for online banking on your mobile phone, alongside digital signing of documents via the DigiDoc app are perhaps the best examples of how the Mobile-ID makes daily tasks easier,” Lauri Läheb said.

Mobile-ID users who plan to buy a new phone, which uses either nano or micro SIM, must re-subscribe to the Mobile-ID service.

Mobile-ID is a state-certified identification document on mobile phone’s SIM card, and is therefore always with the user. Mobile-ID enables the same operations as ID card, thus replacing an ID-card reader, which must be connected to a computer. Mobile-ID enables secure e-operations, like logging in to online banks or signing documents on computers and mobile phones in Estonia and abroad. With Mobile-ID, secure e-operations can be done on computers, which do not have an ID-card reader. Mobile-ID and ID-card are properties of private person and therefore an authorization from the company is not required for subscribing to Mobile-ID service.

Mobile-ID subscription can be made upon presenting an ID-card at EMT and Elion stores. Additional information on Mobile-ID is available at (in Estonian).
