Configuring Microsoft Edge for using the ID-card

To be able to use e-services with the ID-card in the Microsoft Edge browser, you need to keep both ID-software and the Microsoft Edge browser software up to date. All of the necessary plugins should be working automatically.

If malfunctions occur – for example, digital signing isn’t possible or you can’t confirm actions – the most common reason is the Microsoft Edge plugin settings. This is very easy to check!

Browser settings: Microsoft Edge (Chromium)

Step 1: Open Extensions

Click on the icon with three dots on the right-hand side of Microsoft Edge and select Extensions.

Step 2: Enable Token signing plugin

A new window with extensions opens, find the plugin called Token signing and make sure that it is Enabled. This plugin is enabled by default and you cannot change it yourself!

  • If this plugin exists but its status is something other than Enabled (e.g. Disabled), contact ID-help.

Step 3: Check whether using your ID-card is now possible

Do the following to ensure that the change takes effect: close Microsoft Edge (all windows if you had several open), open it again and try to sign the same transaction you failed to sign before.

In case the necessary extensions exist in your computer and Token Signing is enabled, but you still cannot work with your ID-card in Microsoft Edge, try updating the browser. For the time being, use another browser for ID-card activities, i.e. Mozilla Firefox.
