Changes in the Chrome v.45 web browser require updates in your e-services

17.08.2015

All e-service providers have to implement the support for hwcrypto.js JavaScript web signing component to allow digital signing with ID-card in Chrome web browser starting from ver 45.

We would like to remind you that in order to continue digital signing with ID-card via the Chrome v 45 (released September 7th) web browser all e-service providers need to develop support for the new signing module by this September.

In April, Chrome partially disabled support for NPAPI based digital signing plug-ins. In September, the override will be removed, which means that as of the first week of September, Chrome (as of version 45) will only allow signing with ID-card via the module based on the new technology.

All e-service providers that have not switched to the new digital signing solution must update their information systems. Otherwise, digital signing with ID-card via the Chrome web browser will not be possible in your e-service.

What should e-service providers do?

E-service providers, who are using idCard.js web signing JavaScript supplementary library (including versions 0.20 and 0.21) or any other solution have to start using the new hwcrypto.js JavaScript web signing component. Hwcrypto.js JavaScript component  is published at GitHub: https://github.com/open-eid/hwcrypto.js. The component's API documentation along with usage sample can be found here, old (NPAPI) and new digital signing module are supported in parallel. The new hwcrypto.js component can be tested at digital signing test page.

DigiDocService users can use updated sample application which uses hwcrypto.js for choosing the signing plug-in.

Developers and integrators for technical questions please e-mail support at sk dot ee.

End-users

For end-users, the new signing module "Token signing" is automatically installed with ID-software from version 3.10.2, available for download from id.ee.
