Removal of unnecessary certificates from browsing history (Windows) - DigiDoc4

In Windows operating system the user of Internet Explorer and/or Google Chrome may see several user certificates displayed when logging to an e-service (see the below screenshot):

To remove unnecessary certificates, do the following:

insert your ID-card into the smartcard reader and run the DigiDoc4 Client;

wait until the DigiDoc4 Client reads the data and identifies your ID card;

click on "Settings"

and then "REMOVE OLD CERTIFICATES"

Close the DigiDoc4 Client. Now when you login to an e-service, you will only see the certificates of the ID-card inserted to the smartcard reader.

If you use several ID-cards on the same computer, you may need to repeat the above steps after some time or re-install eID software with option "Delete the ID-card certificates from the computer upon removing the card".

In order to install that option:

  • Make sure you have uninstalled eID software from computer
  • Download the latest eID software https://installer.id.ee/?lang=eng
  • After download run the eID software application and select "Customize"

  • On the next setup page, select "Delete the ID-card certificates from the computer upon removing the card" and continue the installation process after "OK"

  • After successful eID software installation, the ID-card certificates will be automatically deleted upon removing the card.
