E-services must switch to the Web eID solution by the end of 2026

E-services that offer online authentication and signing with an ID card must switch to the Web eID solution, as backward compatibility will be removed from Web eID at the end of 2026.

Web eID components were added to the ID software in 2022, and a temporary backward-compatibility solution has supported the transition to date. This made it possible to continue signing with the ID card even in those e-services that had not yet switched to the new system.

The transition period ends at the end of this year. After that, online signing with the ID card will only be possible in e-services that use the Web eID solution. More detailed information about implementing the solution is available on the id.ee website.

If the transition is not completed by the end of 2026, it will no longer be possible to sign online with the ID card in those services.

The purpose of this change is to reduce technical complexity, prevent browser-based issues, and ensure a consistent and clear user experience. We recommend that you begin the transition as soon as possible to avoid any disruption to the service.
