In order to use the ID-card electronically, the ID-card certificates (authentication certificate and signature certificate) must be valid and ready for use. Usually, both certificates of the ID-card are ready for use when the card is issued, and no additional steps are required to start using the ID-card electronically.
The situation is slightly different for ID-cards issued after November 17, 2025: to start using digital signatures, you must first change your PIN2 code. PIN codes can be changed in the DigiDoc application. Additional information can be found here.
NB! Remember that PIN1 is you and PIN2 is your signature. Keep your PIN codes to yourself!
