The Estonian Information System Authority (RIA) released version 3.1.0 of the RIA DigiDoc mobile app on 14 September. The update makes using an ID card on mobile devices more convenient and introduces new ways of using an ID card in the web browser of a mobile device.
The new version is available for both Android and iOS devices and will reach users through the Apple App Store and Google Play within a week.
This is a regular update to the mobile app that includes improvements to usability and reliability, as well as new features.
Key changes and additions:
- support for physical ID card readers has been removed; ID cards can now be used via the NFC interface: after the user has entered their details, they can place their ID card against their phone and complete the operation without needing a card reader;
- support for Web eID for Mobile has been added, enabling web service developers to create an integration and offer ID card authentication and signing in e-services through a mobile device’s web browser;
- an option to enable support for the Long-Term Archival (LTA) timestamp has been added to the app settings;
- support for Android 13 has been removed.

RIA DigiDoc is a free mobile application designed for digitally signing documents on a smartphone using an ID card, Mobile ID, or Smart ID. In addition to digital signing, the RIA DigiDoc app can be used to check the information and validity of ID card certificates and change PINs and PUKs.
