Today, on 7 October, the Information System Authority (RIA) released the new version 2024.9 of the ID software, which, among other updates, changed the name of the DigiDoc4 application and the main digital signature library.
The word ‘client’ has been removed from the name of the DigiDoc4 application that is installed with the ID software to increase semantic coherence between eID applications. As a major change, the base libraries of the libdigidocpp library used for signing in the DigiDoc4 application were also updated to ensure even better performance and security of digital signatures.
According to Kristel Merilain, Product Owner of the Electronic Identity Department, security, reliability, and user satisfaction are key in the provision of public services. ‘Technology is constantly evolving, and our needs are changing with it, which makes it increasingly important to keep software up to date. The software update makes the device work faster and smoother. We encourage all users to upgrade to the latest version of the ID software to ensure smooth and secure digital signing,’ said Merilain.
In addition to the update of the signature library and the name change, the following updates and changes were made to the ID software (version 2024.9):
- macOS 15 support added
- ended support for Ubuntu 23.10
- removed support for Gemalto ID cards
- the Windows installer can now be installed without an internet connection
- fixed the problem of manually adding the SiVa certificate in the app settings
- updates to components and bug fixes
