After installing the Windows 11 update released on 24 February, users may experience issues when using Thales ID cards. As a result, the DigiDoc4 application may fail to detect the ID card, and authentication with the ID card may not work in e-services that do not use the Web eID solution. In e-services where authentication and signing are performed using the Web eID solution, the Thales ID card continues to function normally.
The issue affects Thales ID cards issued from 17 November 2025 onward and is related to the Windows update. After installing the update, the DigiDoc4 application may not detect the ID card, and authentication with the ID card may fail in e-services that have not yet transitioned to the Web eID solution.
RIA is working on resolving the issue in cooperation with ID card manufacturer Thales. We recommend temporarily using alternative authentication methods (for example Smart-ID or Mobile-ID).
If using an alternative authentication method is not possible, the ID card can still be used by removing the latest Windows software update. Removing the software update that causes this issue does not affect system security, as it is not a security update but rather an enhancement to Windows software functionality.
