Today, on 20 June, the Information System Authority (RIA) released the new version 25.5 of the ID software, which adds support for new cards.
At the beginning of July 2025, IDEMIA, the current Estonian card issuer, will start issuing ID cards with a new platform. In order to use these cards electronically – for example, for authentication and digital signatures –, users who receive their ID card starting from the beginning of July will need to upgrade their ID software to version 25.5.
In addition to the support for cards with the new platform, version 25.5 of the ID software includes the following updates and changes:
- added support for Windows Server 2025 and Ubuntu 25.04
- expiry of the support for Windows Server 2016, macOS 12, and Ubuntu 20.04
- new IDEMIA card software IDPlug introduced in Windows
- updates to components and bug fixes
