macOS: installing and uninstalling ID-software

The ID-software consists of several components that are quick and easy to install.

If you are about to install ID-software independently for the first time, or if you are about to start using the ID-card electronically, we recommend that you read the article “What to do if I would like to start using my ID-card” featuring more detailed instructions.

  • Download ID-software components

    Open App Store on your computer (you will find it via Launchpad; the necessary icon – a blue circular icon with a white A in the middle – is usually on the computer’s start bar) and enter ‘DigiDoc4’ in the search or use this direct link:

    Download and install it on your computer following the instructions on the screen – this may take a few minutes.

  • Instructions for installing ID software on macOS computers

    Please note that in the case of macOS operating system, you need to save and install three separate software packages on your computer:

    • DigiDoc4 Client: you need this for creating digital signatures, use ID-cards, etc.
    • Web browser components for authentication in Chrome and digital signing in Firefox*: you need these in order to access, make transactions and create signatures in e-services such as internet banks and the Eesti.ee website via your web browser.

    Step 1 : Save software package on your computer and double click on the file name to install it. We recommend that you close all Internet browser windows. First, you need to install the web components.

    Step 2 : Software installation is very simple – all necessary instructions are displayed on the screen. Read the information on the screen before moving on to the next step.

    Step 3 : Click Customize to remove Firefox and Chrome authentication and signing support. Estonian ID-card support is a necessary component for ID-card operation.

    Step 4: A new Apple Store window will open. You may install Web eID support for Safari and the DigiDoc4 client.

    Install them if necessary. You need an Apple account.

    Step 5: The installation ends with a hint to allow run the extensions.

    * Installation of online authentication and signing components is optional: you only need them if you want to access Internet services with an ID card.

    Removal of the ID-software

    • To uninstall the ID-card software do the following:
    • download ID-software
    • Open the downloaded file, open Terminal
    • drag-and-drop uninstall.sh to Terminal window
    • Press Enter and y
    • Enter your password

    The ID-software and all related files have been successfully removed from your computer.
